Assessment of the heritability of different aspects of betacell function in normoglycaemic monozygotic and dizygotic twins

Background

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a serious and heritable disease .The impaired pancreatic ß-cell function has been recognised as of paramount  importance in its the aetiolog . To date the heritability of insuline secretion by the ß-cell is largely unknown. New models have been developed, which facilitate the identification and characterisation of phenotypes of ß-cell (dys)function and the variance of these properties in normoglycaemic subjects.
