Web-based self-management of insulin titration in patients with type 2 diabetes: The Di@log Study

Background

The high prevalence and incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the risk for developing severe complications and the fact that diabetes care is still not optimal, highlights the important of further improvement of diabetes management. Patient empowerment, an approach aiming for a more central position of the patient in the management of his/her diabetes and bear more responsibility for it, seems to be an important basis to improve diabetes management. Making use of interactive technologies, such an environment is created in which the patient can manage his/her own treatment including insulin titration and insulin self-adjustments, aiming for a good glycaemic control.
