Personal information

 Anneke Francke is Professor at the department of Public and Occupational Health, EMGO+ Institute of the VU University Medical Center. Her endowed Chair "Nursing at-the-end-of-life", is initiated by NIVEL - the Netherlands institute for health services research.

She studied nursing and worked several years as a nurse in a general hospital (1977-1981). Subsequently, she studied sociology at the University of Utrecht (1982-1987). After graduation she worked as a researcher at the Helen Dowling Institute (1988-1995). 
She obtained her PhD degree of the University of Maastricht in 1996. Her thesis was entitled:” Continuing pain education. The impact on nursing practice.”

From 1995 until now she works at NIVEL. First as a reaearcher (up to 1997), and later as a programme coordinator of the research line "Nursing and care". Since september 2009, she is also part-time professor at VU University Medical Center.

She supervises various projects focusing on nursing, palliative care or dementia care. Current projects are funded by ZonMw, NutsOhra, NIVEL or the Ministry of VWS. She wrote a lot of international and national articles within the fields of nursing and end-of-life-care. Her full publication list can be found on
