Coosje is a researcher at the Institute of Health sciences, department Nutrition and Health at the VU University Amsterdam and the EMGO Institute for Health and Care Research. She is trained as a nutritionist and epidemiologist and obtained her Master’s degree from Wageningen University. She is working on different research projects aiming to decrease socioeconomic inequalities in dietary intake in children and adolescence. Examples are the Voedselwijs project, in which she evaluates a multiple component school garden based program, aiming to increase vegetable consumption in children in social economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Coosje is also involved in the Green Healthy Student project and the Healthy Supermarket project.
She recently finished her PhD project entitled: "Socio-economic differences in adherence to the dietary recommendations for fruit, vegetable and fish and underlying mechanisms among Dutch older adults". She also worked on the Foodbank project with Judith Neter: “Optimize food choices and food patterns in low socioeconomic status recipients of the Dutch food bank and consequently prevent nutrition-related chronic diseases.”
Coosje is also a teaching assistant for several courses in the nutrition department-working groups, practical’s, tutor, supervision of BSc / MSc thesis and PhD students.
