Dr. Emiel O. Hoogendijk is an assistant professor (NWO/ZonMw VENI fellow) at the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics of the VU University Medical Center (VUmc) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He holds a PhD in Medicine from VUmc, where he performed his PhD research on care for frail older people at the Department of General Practice & Elderly Care Medicine. He gained international experience at the Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics (Gérontopôle) of the Toulouse University Hospital in France, where he worked as postdoc. Currently, he is part of the research group of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam, and he is involved with various (international) research projects on physical and cognitive functioning of older adults. His main area of interest and expertise is frailty in older adults. In 2017, he received a prestigious VENI grant (250k), which enables him to further develop his frailty research in the coming years. 

Areas of expertise: Frailty in older adults, physical functioning, social functioning, longitudinal analyses, stepped wedge RCT designs, multistate survival models.

Registered as senior Epidemiologist ("Epidemioloog B" - VVE and SMBWO). He is Associate editor of BMC Geriatrics, and Editorial board member of the Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging, and the Journal of Frailty & Aging. 

Grants and prizes: VENI fellowship 2017 (250k euro), EMGO fellowship 2015 (56k euro), Professor Schreuder award 2017, Heert Dokter award 2016, Van Coeverden Adriani foundation travel fellowship 2015, Professor Munnichs thesis award 2008.
