Suzan van der Pas is senior researcher at the EMGO Institute of the VU University Medical Center. She is coordinator of the European Project on Osteoarthritis (EPOSA) and is also involved in the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA).
Suzan obtained a MA Sociology (1996) and MA European Comparative Family Studies (1997). She recieved her PhD in 2006 from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for her thesis entitled "Intergenerational Relationships of Older Adults: Family Structure, Contact and Norms". She worked as a research fellow at the National Institute for Demographic and Economic Analysis (NIDEA), University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand (2007-2009). Also she was a teaching fellow at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Societies and Cultures, Hamilton, New Zealand (2007-2008). Since 2010 she works at the department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, EMGO+ Institute.
Her research interests include: family sociology, social and personal consequences of chronic diseases (osteoarthritis), social participation, impact societal changes on aging families (e.g. stepfamilies), and aging migrants.
