Susan van Dijk

Susan van Dijk graduated in developmental psychology (MSc) at the University of Amsterdam in 2010. Intrigued by the complex - and sometimes overlooked - interplay between ‘body and mind’, she began her career as a junior researcher at the Trimos-institute in Utrecht. Here, she conducted qualitative research on the organization of care for adults who have a chronic physical illness and comorbid mental health problems.

In December 2011, Susan started working on the Step-Dep Project: a randomized controlled trial on the cost-effectiveness of a stepped-care intervention to prevent major depression in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and/or coronary heart disease in primary care, who already have depressive symptoms. This project is embedded in the Health Sciences department of the VU University and the Mental Health program of the EMGO+ institute. The execution and evaluation of Step-Dep will be part of Susan’s PhD thesis. Other members of the project team are: Lidy Pols MD,  prof. dr. Maurits van Tulder, dr. Harm van Marwijk, dr. Judith Bosmans and dr. Marcel Adriaanse (project leader).

The first results are expected in December 2015
