Personal information

Juan Miguel Fernández Alvira is a PhD student at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, EMGO Institute, VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 

His PhD project entitled "Inequalities in children's energy balance related behaviors" explores the mediating role of energy balance-related behaviors in the associations between socioeconomic indicators and children's body composition. This thesis is based on the results of the ENERGY project.

Within the University of Zaragoza, Spain, he was involved in the IDEFICS study, the ENERGY project and the TOYBOX project.

Educational background:  In 2004 he finished his Bachelor in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Zaragoza. in 2009 he finished his Bachelor in Clinical Psychology at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. In 2011 he completed a Master in Social and Health Sciences Methodology at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.  

From 2006 he has been working at the GENUD (Growth, Exercise, NUtrition and Development) research group at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Zaragoza, Spain, under the lead of Prof. Luis Moreno.
