Rob van Marum

Rob van Marum is part-time professor 'Geriatric Pharmacotherapy' at the Department of General Practice & Elderly Care Medicine / EMGO Institute for Health and Care Research, VU University Medical Center Amsterdam.  His chair is created by the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands (, a large teaching hospital, where he works as geriatrician and clinical pharmacologist (and as head of the training programmes for both geriatric medicine and clinical pharmacology).

Rob worked as nursing home physician from 1990 to 1999. During these years he also worked part-time at the department of nursing home medicine at VUmc were he finished his PhD thesis on 'The risk of developing decubitus ulcers' in 1998. In 1999 he started his residency in geriatric medicine followed by his training in clinical pharmacology. From 2003-2009 he worked as geriatrician at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Since jan 1th 2010 he works at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital.  

In his research he focusses on medication safety in elderly patients (especially methods of medication review and medication appropriateness) and side effects of psychotropic drugs.
