Laura Belmon

My name is Laura Belmon and since June 2016 I work as a PhD student at the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the Amsterdam Public Health Institute (before: EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research) at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam and the Public Health Service of Amsterdam (GGD).

As a PhD student I am doing research on sleep behaviour among primary school children. The project includes the development and evaluation of a behavioural intervention to stimulate healthy sleep among children aged 4-12 years in Amsterdam. The process is guided by the Intervention Mapping approach, which provides a framework for developing theory- and evidence-informed programs, including a multi-level approach and community participation. For example: what are the determinants associated with (un)healthy sleep behaviour in children? How do we measure sleep behaviour in children and are the existing measurement tools applicable for measuring child sleep behaviour? Finally, we aim to develop a universal, preventative intervention that effectively promotes healthy sleep behaviour in children.

After my bachelor graduation on Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam in July 2012, I completed the Premaster followed by the Master Health Sciences at the VU University with specialization in Prevention and Public Health. In 2014 I worked as an intern at the EMGO+ Institute and contributed to the Active2Gether project, a project that aims to promote physical activity among young adults by making use of mobile devices and social media.
