Irene  Jongerden

Irene Jongerden, RN, PhD, is senior researcher at VU medical center, EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research, Department of Public and Occupational Health, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her focus is on nursing research activities in VU medical center, i.e. stimulating use of evidence in nursing practice and initiating and supervising nursing research. Special focus is on integration of nursing research, practice and education within the theme of self-management support of patients.

Irene is trained as a nurse, has a Master in Clinical Health Science (Nursing Science) and a PhD in Medical Sciences on the topic ‘Airway management and respiratory tract colonization in intensive care patients’ (2011). She is familiar with both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Furthermore she was course coordinator (Science into Practice) in the master Nursing Science (Clinical Health Sciences). From 2015-2016 she co-supervised the nursing curriculum development BN2020 in a University of Applied Sciences.

Currently she supervises master and PhD students in their research focused on self-management support in different patient groups and on quality and safety of nursing care. Furthermore she is chair of the nursing EBP committee and of the nurse researches network, both in VUmc, and member of the committee Science into Practice of the Dutch Nurses’ Association (V&VN).
