Karin Pouw was born in 1988 in Houten, the Netherlands. She studied Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Utrecht University - Utrecht Medical Center in Utrecht, and obtained her degree in 2014. She then worked as a trainee at several facilties: Elderly Care Medicine at a nursing home from Carinova in Raalte, followed by traineeships in outpatient rehabilitation at Sophia Rehabilitation in Delft and a traineeship in clinical geriatrics at the Diakonessen hospital in Zeist.
In September 2016 Karin started as a PhD student on the IMPETUS project at the Department of General Practice and Elderly Care Medicine of the VU University Medical Center (VUmc), in combination with specialist medical training to become an elderly care physician at Gerion (VUmc) in Amsterdam. As part of her PhD program she also started with the EpidM master course in Epidemiology at the VUmc.
