Personal information

Maarten de Jong is a researcher at the department of General Practice & Elderly Care Medicine, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam Public Health research institute. His research focuses on the battle against antibiotic resistance  by developing antibiotic stewardships.

Maarten completed the Health Sciences Master's degree in Infectious Diseases and Public Health at the VU University in Amsterdam in 2014. During his studies he lived and worked in Northern Ghana for research on unwanted teen pregnancies and infectious diseaeses and to gain clinical experience in local hospitals. After graduating he worked as transplant coordinator for all Dutch patients in need of a haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In May 2016 he went back to the humanitarian field by working for Doctors without Borders: he went on a 8 month mission to Haiti to tackle nosocomial infections.
