Roberto Perez recieved his degree in Physical Therapy in 1991 and Human Movement Sciences in 1995. He started his research career in 1996 at the department of Anesthesiology of the VU University Medical Center. In the period of 1996-2001 he focused on posttraumatic dystrophy of the upper extremity and treatment options for reflex dystrophy, which is nowadays defined as Complex Regional Pain Sydrome (CRPS). Dr. Perez received his Ph.D. degree in 2002 based on the thesis entitled "Complex Regional Syndrome Type I: ‘A randomized controlled study into the effects of two free radical scavengers and evaluation of measurement instruments", and subsequently started as Assistant Professor in the same department. He contributed to different pain related national and international multidisciplionary guideline developments.
At this moment, Roberto Perez working as an associate professor at the anesthesiolgy department, is supervisor of several Ph.D. students and acts as a research coordinator for the department and hospice Kuria research line Pain, Pain Therapy and Palliative Care.
