Personal information

Karin Swart started her study in Health Sciences at Maastricht University in 2002. In 2003, she concurrently started a bachelor’s programme in Physical therapy at the Hogeschool Zuyd, Heerlen. She obtained both bachelor’s degrees in 2007. Subsequently, she studied Human Movement Sciences at VU University, Amsterdam. She completed her master’s degree with a research internship on low-intensity wheelchair training at the Rehabilitation Center Amsterdam.
In 2008 Karin started her PdD project at VU University Medical Center, department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the EMGO+ Institute. She worked mainly on the B-PROOF study, a randomized controlled trial to the effects of B-vitamin supplementation. The B-PROOF study was accomplished in successful collaboration with researchers from the Wageningen University and Erasmus MC. In addition to the B-PROOF team, she was involved in the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam research group.
During her PdD period, Karin obtained a master’s degree in Epidemiology. In 2013 she has been working as post-doctoral epidemiologist at the department of Otorhinolaryngology at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Currently, she is working at the EMGO+ Institute on the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme ‘Food-based solutions for eradication of vitamin D deficiency and health promotion throughout the life cycle’ (ODIN).
